Default How do you promote your site?

I'm usually pretty good at making sites but when it comes to promotion I'm pretty lost.

What are some of the ways you get visitors to your site?

i spent a lot of time advertising my club soccer site (mosgielafc.co.nz), found it quite hard as not many people were interested to begin with. But by the end i have many people looking at the site and using it.

Any tips you could give me for this year would be great...

Default links to your site

the one tried and tested way to promote your site is by getting people to see your links..

i can give you a link back from my rugby site as i have a few soccer sites on there as well. pm me if you want this done. I'll do it free cos i just joined this forum. :-)

I'd also recommend that you get your site into as may NZ directories as possible. there is nzs , kiwipages, bigdirectory theres quite a few out there. try to get free links. you can also get a link into trademe in your profile i think unless that's changed.

hope that helps

You have to create links in places where people are interested in your topic. For example posting about Soccer in the US is a waste of time. Not a big game in the states. But in UK, South America, etc it's good.

didnt you know that Beckham plays for USA? its a turning market. A themed link is always great, but having links on different indexes is also very good. ie. getting links on .org .coms .co.uks etc etc by having links on international websites you can definately improve your serps.

I think posting in the USA .com websites/forums/blogs etc is a very good idea , the USA accounts for the origination for 60% of all global internet traffic.

People love to see/read about new things so posting about soccer would be excellent. I would write an article about soccer and post it on american blogs stating that it is going to be more popular than their americn football !!! that'd get some response!

Yes, Rob123, I know Beckham plays in the U.S. As to whether it's a turning market has yet to be seen. Stop and think for a moment, Beckham is in Los Angeles. Los Angeles has a huge Latino population which loves Soccer. There are also more people from the UK and other countries in Los Angeles than in any other part of the U.S. If you go outside Los Angeles, soccer is not such a big thing here. In fact, I heard recently that the LA Galaxy (I think that's what they call the team) was having a terrible turn out last year. They can't get people to go watch the games. In the U.S. the games of appeal are Baseball, Football, and Basketball. In some of the colder areas, Hockey. Soccer just doesn't rank very high at all. Most Americans just can't get excited about a bunch of guys rolling a ball around with their feet. Now if you make it into a contact sport, now you're talking viewer points!

As mentioned above I get many visitors by leaving links in forums that are related to my sites. Also leaving thoughtful comments (and your link) in popular web sites, blogs, and news sites in the comment section - If you comment early you can several click throughs...

Also submitting your profile and possibly articles, to relevant blog/web search directories and social sites (facebook, myspace, etc) can help; but better still if you interact on any available forums they have, and network by creating friends....the popular Mybloglog and blogcatalog for blogs is popular for increasing visitors, initially anyway. Though it can take a lot of time...

I also subscribe to about 30 email/rss feeds to the top bloggers and marketing webmasters, about web site promotion/Content Optimization/Monetization, and topics that relate to my sites, etc.
